In honour of my friend Peter, who has just completed the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, and celebrated his 70th birthday on board Jersey Clipper.
This morning, I collected Peter and his wife Mary from Gosport - the final destination of Jersey Clipper after 38,000 miles at sea and a little trip from the finishing line at Liverpool last Saturday to Jersey and then up to Gosport overnight last night.
What an amazing journey it must be, sailing a racing yacht around the world through all sorts of weather, through the Southern Ocean, visiting many countries, having several skippers (the lot of Jersey Clipper at least), changing crew... losing your engine and being towed in, breaking many bits of the boat. Its been fascinating tracking their progress.
And how strange it must be to come back to normal life after 11 months of this type of journey.
