My son Ben weds his sweetheart of six years in St Sampson Church, Golant, Cornwall.
I returned to Cornwall two weeks before the wedding to lend a hand with the organising but to be honest, i had little to do.
Cliar’s friend Karen had everything under control and turned out to be THE fairy god mother of all time.
Karen made everything, the decorations for the marquee, flowers in the church, the cake, the wedding dress and to top all this, she even wrote the music Clair walked down the aisle to.
Two days before the wedding the marquee arrived with a team of hunky men for an erection..... (yeah yeah i know but i couldn’t let this opportunity for an innuendo go by).
They were a well oiled team and had everything under control, here they are posing with their tools.
You see, long pegs are placed around the outside and these stabalize the marquee, it would seem that one or more when hammered in had hit the main electrical supply not just for Orchard View, but the neighbouring farm as well.
To the rescue came a duo from Western Power.
After a bit of measuring, head scratching and passing up and down by Kevin they started digging trenches. It was a bit likelooking for a needle in a haystack to find out just which peg had caused the blackout.
Fortunately it didn’t take too long before the culprit was found. I actually kept my distance because Kevin, Clair’s dad was threatening to bury me in the trench they’d dug.
It is funny how when a hole is being dug everyone seems to stand and watch.....
After the boys had put up the marquee it was our turn to add the finishing touches. Bunting and lanterns were hung, chairs and tables laid, favours filled with jelly beans.
I must say not one person was tempted and had a jelly bean....yeah right.
Hmmmm that's a guilty look if i've ever seen one Sarah....
.Every one pushed the boat out and worked together to make it look lovely for the happy couple.
Then there were some who took it a little easier............
Village people, noooo not the group but the people of Golant opened their gardens and gave permission to take any flowers we liked to decorate the marquee and church. Karen didn't go anywhere without her secateurs for the few day's running up to the wedding.
Ben, Clair and their friends need no encouragement when it comes to dressing up and i had thought this may have been a very themed wedding.
Although they didn’t go the whole hog there was a theme
'The Mad Hatters Tea Party' from Alice in Wonderland.
Each table had it's own teapot of flowers and bottles of wine with drink me written on them.
Banners, bunting, mirrors and clocks decorated the marquee and pots of red paint hung in trees around the garden to paint the roses with.
Finally the day was upon us and it was frantic. Karen and I went tyo decorate the church in the morning and just got back in time to change. The house was buzzing. Boys downstairs getting ready and girls upstairs.
Emma helped Pobo with her hair...
And this is Clair all dressed up and looking happy and relaxed......
