My blog is somewhat out of sync however as I don’t want to miss writing about some of the things that have happened over the last few months I’ll summarise now and hopefully keep up to date from here on.
Earlier this year we saw the children’s carnival down the main street in Lefkas. Colour, noise, smoke, streamers, whistles and horns made for a great photo shoot day not that I got too many good ones, it was rather crowded and being jostled around meant for some very blurred shots. The children’s carnival was a precursor to the grown ups carnival the following weekend. This too was a spectacle with some rather risqué political statements in the floats, tongue in cheek stuff of course.
The gym has dominated my daytime life here plus cycle rides and the odd walk around the olive groves.
I had a little scare the other morning, lying in my cabin looking at the blue sky through the hatch I lifted my leg and felt a huge lump at the back of my thigh, remembering my first aid I felt the other leg so I could determine the size my thigh should be, lo and behold I had a lump on that one too. GOOD GRIEF...........it’s a muscle, what a relief. All this cycling has given me thigh muscles old Arni would be proud of.
Of course it’s not all been keep fit, there has been the odd quiz night at Chicken Bill’s, Wednesday film nights that Mark organised and the Friday Porto evening where we all meet up telling old sea dog tales and supping jugs of wine. I’ve also been dragged screaming to local restaurants for late evening meals which has hampered the diet somewhat which has meant two trips to the gym some days.
I’ve also helped Kevan in getting some of the boats ready for launching, anti fouling and cleaning decks. I’ve really enjoyed it, I’ve felt somewhat idle the past few months and with the lovely weather it’s been nice to get manually physical again ready for the new sailing season.
Carol has returned with her cousin Trish. Although Trish is a strong character she has a great sense of humour. I won’t divulge her age but she’s ten years older than me and full of life. She also has an amazing ability to make wine disappear. Trish flys home on Friday and I’ll miss her.
