There are a few post to go in before this one however they are on my other laptop so bare with me and look back on your next visit.
Set off from Lefkas this morning heading for a nice bay to relax in. It’s great when you set off with no particular plan and make your mind up en route. Having negotiated the channel out of Lefkas we headed south. We found the impeller was making the auto helm drive like it had been out on the tiles and downed about 20 pints of your strongest beer. Was the fact we had cleaned it in vinegar anything to do with it?, nope, that wasn’t the problem the problem was it was in sideways. A quick twist of the wrist and all was well.
Turn left at the next headland and we were in One tree bay/Varko bay/Nerokramita or Cocoa bay, take your pick. Co ordinates for those interested 38°45.88N 20°47.81E.
One tree bay is what the local sailing community call it and the reason being it has one lovely Oak tree with acorns the size of rabbits on it.
There were about seven boats at anchor and with our now newly marked anchor chain we snuck in and dropped 3 meters of 10 mil chain. Carol and i had remarked the chain as the cable ties I’d put on while in the Guadianna were now almost invisible. So we now have a very pretty chain with red painted bands every ten meters and a green cable tie every five.
So here we are sitting on a sandy bottom where we can see the sea bed, it’s so clear. The sea is a lovely turquoise, fish a swimming, birds a singing and fly’s a flyin. We think the herd of goats walking along the beach maybe the reason for the fly’s. I’ve just sent about twenty to meet their maker.
God must have been having a bad day when he decided to create the fly, maybe he had something else in his mind like, why the heck did he create man before woman or, maybe he just ran out of materials.
Anyway, it’s lovely here, oh except for the big cloud hovering over head. It soon passed after emptying a few drops of the wet stuff on us.
Sun back out and Carol and I went into the briney donned with snorkel and mask. I’m not a cold sea lover and this was almost perfect, a few degrees warmer would have been nice but hey, I’m not complaining and we needed to cool off it must be about 35°.
As soon as I peered below a shoal of fish peered up and came to investigate. A few fishy looks and they went on their way. We swam ashore to take a look at the tree, no acorns yet but the start of what will be huge fruit can already be seen. Of course you can’t take a swim without feeling a need to work....... Carol decided we should clean the water line. Not an easy task trying to stay afloat and scrape the weed off the hull still, great exercise though.
We’ve put a solar shower on the stern and it was great to sit on the stern platform washing your hair with boiling water at hand to rinse off, I felt like some babe in a bond film, shame I don’t look like one. Of course after a swim and shower one has to dry off and what better way than to go aux natural and bare all to the sun. I lay on the coach roof in my birthday suit. People don’t care out here. in fact.
We heard someone shout “YOUR TOWEL, YOUR TOWEL” and when we turned around a man standing starker’s was pointing to the towel we had tied over the side just in case Jas (short for Jasmin) the kitten fell in, she would at least be able to get back on board. We also have a large net we bought just in case she does a double pike over the side. So that’s been our day, what have you been up to?......
