We decide to do a long day, as the crew are about to mutiny if they do not get a restaurant tonight. Lignes promises several.. and its down hill all the way!
This stretch of the canal proves to be lovely.. remote and rural, and full of wild flowers, birds, rolling fields and woodlands.. just beautiful.
The down locks are a delight. The water is clear and full of fishes (and weed and waterlillies).. obviously not much traffic here. Come to think of it, we have seen very few boats.. I think 3 in the last 4 days. We were one of only two boats to go through the Mauvages tunnel yesterday, and today we see no-one.
We are so struck by the wild flowers. Sylvia can't resist picking them and creates a garland for Bliss. I don't think she is very amused, but likes it better as a collar .
Sam meanwhile decides that 24 locks is just very tiring...
Trish perfects her front of boat technique.
After a long day, we arrive in Ligny to find the town mooring is too shallow. There are no signs of promised bollards, so we have to go another two locks on to a mooring outside a grain factory. Not exactly the most salubrious place, as what sounds like a grain dryer switches on and off all night.
Its a walk back into town.. but HURRAH.. we find a pleasant. if basic, restaurant in the town square. Steak and chips called for, anmd a promise of something better soon.
